Discover and share the best refreshing Beaujolais:)
“Beaujolais is the only region within Burgundy that uses the Gamay grape. The three different quality levels are Beaujolais, Beaujolais Villages, and Cru. There are 10 cru villages which are Brouilly, Chenas, Chiroubles, Cote de Brouilly, Fleurie, Julienas, Morgon, Moulin-a-Vent, Regnie, and Saint-Amour. If the place of origin of the grapes is from one of the 10 Cru villages, only the village name will appear on the label.
Nouveau is another category of Beaujolais that is bottled and released within six months of harvest and was initially made for the locals in Beaujolais to celebrate the harvest. Beaujolais Nouveau has become a world-wide marketing success story. About 19 million cases of wine a year are produced in Burgundy, 12 million of those are Beaujolais, and one third of Beaujolais grapes are used to make Beaujolais Nouveau, released the third Thursday in November.”
